Fund Administration

TOE has a strong track record of administering funds on behalf of organisations across the public, private and non-profit sectors. This is a great way to support TOE’s Local Environment Fund with ring-fenced funding, as opposed to simply making a donation.

By working in partnership with funders, we can devise and manage bespoke grant programmes to deliver specified environmental outcomes, providing they are aligned with TOE’s Local Environment Fund priorities. We can also administer funds as part of existing TOE grant programmes. In either case, separate processes will be maintained, as required.

Organisations that use this service may choose the level of involvement and visibility they want. Some are very hands-off, whereas others have very active roles.

As a registered charity, TOE works to current Best Practice and meets the latest SORP requirements (Statement of Recommended Practice). We are also a Company Limited by Guarantee and a registered Environmental Body with ENTRUST.

CASE STUDY: THe Greater West Programme

TOE worked with Network Rail to administer an £800,000 fund for biodiversity projects in Berkshire and Oxfordshire. Network Rail needed a local partner to find suitable opportunities and process grants. TOE was able to help.

The funding objective was to compensate for unavoidable habitat losses caused by electrification works. We were therefore specifically looking to create new woodland, provide better links between woodlands, and to enhance existing woodland and scrub mosaic. Parish councils, local charities, not-for-profit organisations, local authorities and landowners were all eligible to apply for funding.

We funded 18 projects through this bespoke grant programme, and it has been calculated that these will support a net gain for biodiversity - i.e. above and beyond the funder’s original aspiration. We also demonstrated our ability to work closely and successfully with a large infrastructure company.
